The sugar should rise 20% by year's end, since the fall of production in India will generate global deficit, said Rubens Ometto, president of Cosan. World production of sugar should be less than demand at 4.5 million tonnes to 5 million tonnes in the 12 months to close up in September 2010, compared to a deficit of 7.8 million tonnes for the current harvest years, said last week the International Sugar Organization (OIA). The sugar futures contracts have a jump of 32% drawn by the prospect that the world consumption will be greater than production. "The sugar market is very promising for the coming years," said Ometto. "Prices should be in levels or better." The Cosan will increase production by 10% to 15% this year, said Ometto.

Cepea/Esalq - up to date sugar report

Sugar Quotations decrease in April second fortnight In the beginning of the second fortnight of April, even with the harvest progress, sugar prices remained firm. The support came from international demand for Brazilian product. The strong increases in ethanol values also boosted the sugar market in that period.Nevertheless, in the following week, Brazilian sugar prices backpedaled. The low domestic demand and the stocks sales of the 2008/09 crop pressed down values. Domestic buyers were waiting for product of the 2009/10 season. Regarding exports, buyers were interested in contracts, but they did not prevent the decrease of prices at the beginning of the harvest. In the second fortnight of April (from 15 to 30), the CEPEA/ESALQ Index (Sao Paulo state) for crystal sugar downed 2.66 percent, closing at 45.65 reals or 20.86 dollars per bag of 50 kilos on Thursday 30. Concerning price parity calculated by Cepea, the sugar remunerated 86 percent more than the anhydrous ethanol between April 27 and 30. In relation to the hydrated, the sugar advantage was 94 percent. In the same period, domestic trades (Sao Paulo state) remunerated 7 percent more than exports. According to Unica (Sugar Cane Agroindustry Association), the current Center-Southern crop, sugarcane production should reach 550 million tons, 8.9 percent more than the before. Sugar production in this region is predicted at 31.2 million tons, an increase of 16.6 percent. (Cepea – Brazil)Brazilian source CEPEA/ESALQ.

Sugar historical high prices

Sugar is in the historical path of highest price.

The Barclays Capital (BarCap) believes that the price rises in sugar recorded this year, is the largest one among raw materials. The institution ensures that this trend will continue in the near future to play a historic high. "One of the reason of this rise is the bad season crop this year in India and the estimated growth of demand which will not be fully satisfied by the two major producers in the world: India and Brazil," says BarCap in release. Furthermore, the forecast that oil prices will rise at around $ 80 will encourage the increased production of biodiesel with sugar cane.

Sugar demand increased

Dear Reader,

The sugar futures contracts reached yesterday the highest price since July 2006 by the speculation that investors are betting on the commodity due to forecasts of higher demand. The action of hedge funds also influenced the market. According to the International Sugar Organization, the global demand may exceed production by 7.8 million tonnes in the fiscal year that will end on September 30. "You have done something to undermine the very strong market," Bloomberg told Nicholas Snowdon, of Barclays Capital. In New York, the roles for October rose 31 points, to 16.13 cents per pound-weight. In the domestic market, the sack of 50 pounds left for U.S. $ 45, a decrease of 0.42%, according to the index Cepea / Esalq.

Sugar : Overall deficit in 2009

The global demand for sugar will exceed supply by 7.8 million tonnes this year, almost double the previous estimate, reflecting the fall in production in Asia, according to the International Sugar Organization (OIA), compiled by Bloomberg. The supply deficit will be 4.3 million tons, said Sergey Gudoshnikov, senior economist, of the ISO, who participated in the workshop of Datagram in New York. The effects of increasing the harvest of Brazil, the world's largest producer of sugar, are being undermined by falls in India. The new deficit is expected in 2010. In New York, the contract for October closed to 15.89 cents per pound-weight, high of 17 points. In Chicago, the sack of 50 kilograms close to R $ 45.51, according to the Cepea / Esalq.

Sugar prices rises

Sugar has a strong high Sugar prices recorded the largest advance since July 2006 in the face of speculation that the global annual production of the product should not again meet the demand. The deficit in supply of sugar may reach 9 million tonnes in the year-season which closes on September 30, said the Sucre et Denrees in Paris. Any recovery in the harvest in India would not be sufficient to meet demand next year, some traders believe, as Carlos Gomez's Cytrade Financial in Chicago. "It's simple, we have the demand but lack the necessary supplies," said Gomez. Prices "continue to recover," he added. The future of raw sugar for July delivery advanced 0.18 cents on the dollar or 0.9%, to 15.72 cents of a dollar a pound-weight on ICE Futures U.S. in New York. Previously, the price reached 15.27 cents of a dollar, the highest for a most active contract since July 26, 2006. The most active contract advanced 28% this year. Since yesterday, the contract listed 11 in New York had a maturity in October. Until then, the contract was due in July. A closing price of over 15 cents of a dollar on 1 May detonated more purchases, said Gomez. Sucre et Denrees or Sucden, said the deficit for the year ended September 30, 2010 will be 2 million tonnes ..

LOI -Letter of Intent / basic explanation

A LOI (Letter of Intent) is not a contract. Letters of intent serve to notify the seller that the buyer wishes to enter into negotiations to purchase sugar. They do not contractually oblige either the buyer or the seller to go through with the trade.
Letters of intent should be regarded only as an opening point. Issuing an LOI does not make the buyer culpable for anything written in it. Until a contract is agreed upon and signed, both parties are free to back out of negotiations at any time, and buyers cannot be held liable for statements made in the LOI.
Banking information is not sent with a LOI. Banking information needs to be provided so that the seller can conduct a soft probe on the buyer’s accounts, but this is not necessary at the LOI stage.
Speaking of proof of funds, it is not a legal requirement that a buyer provide proof of funds before entering into a contractual agreement with a seller. Most sellers will prefer this, and many will insist upon it, but it is not an absolute legal .

KEYS TO FRAUD PREVENTION

Good day,

Bsl aiming to prevent and well guide its customers has continuosly looking for to bring enlightment over safety trading procedures however after exhaustive publications into the issue e.traders keep beliefs they will be rich from day to night. Have a good time reading.
With regargds,
BSL - Best Shipping Logistic - Brazil

Keys To Fraud Prevention:
You might be forgiven for feeling a little dismal about the world of international trading. Opportunities are rife for scammers, and legal recourse for those who are scammed is scarce. Too often scammers are never caught, or if they are, they simply serve their time and go on their merry way, living on the profits of their fraudulent transactions which are often sheltered in so called ‘tax havens’, which provide sanctuary not only from taxation, but also from legal proceedings. In many jurisdictions an entity can open a bank account or a trust which can then not be touched, even if the money is proven stolen in another jurisdiction. Because the cure is sometimes impossible to obtain, prevention is the key to avoiding fraud. Fortunately, legitimate brokers and traders have a wide range of weapons in their arsenal which can be used in the fight against fraud, they just have to make sure that they actually use them.
Know Your Market
In all things, knowledge is power. This is especially true when it comes to commodity trading. A successful trader needs to know much more than how to obtain an letter of credit and contact sellers and buyers, he or she needs to know the industry they are working with inside and out. If you are trading Brazilian sugar, for instance, you need to know and understand the Brazilian sugar industry. You need to be able to answer questions like:
What is Brazil’s production capacity?Who are the major producers? When is the peak season? What are current market rates for Brazilian sugar?
Many get caught out in sugar scams because they are lured by promises of impossibly large shipments for ridiculously low prices. Many times the trader being scammed does not know that the shipment they are being promised is pure fantasy, because they do not understand the market.
For instance, take the following example. A scammer offers 20 million tons of Brazilian ICUMSA 45 sparkling white sugar.
Suzie Trader leaps at the deal, not knowing that shipments of millions of tons of ICUMSA 45 sugar are virtually impossible to obtain for a new buyer. In reality, Brazil produces relatively little ICUMSA 45, and the bulk of it is sold ahead of time to traders who purchase it on the futures markets. Small amounts of Brazilian ICUMSA 45 can occasionally be obtained if there is a surplus after harvest, but new entrants to the market will not be able to secure large shipments in their first foray into the market.
In spite of this being fairly common knowledge which can be obtained with just a little research, many people are scammed out of millions of dollars after attempting to buy several million tons of ‘discounted’ ICUMSA 45 Brazilian sugar.
Know The Price
All commodities have a price, and whilst small fluctuations occur, and discounts can be gained by purchasing in bulk, reputable traders still sell commodities at market rates. If the market rate for sugar is currently 10 cents a kilogram, offers selling sugar for 3 cents should be immediately discarded. Those who try and take advantage of such deals are usually the first ones to be taken advantage of themselves.
Scammers sometimes try to explain away the lowered price by claiming that another sale fell through, or that the material they are selling is ‘excess’. Don’t be fooled by such claims. Every commodity has a market value for a reason - there is a demand for it. If a supplier genuinely has a commodity in their possession which is worth a certain amount there is no way that they are going to contact an hitherto unknown trader and try to sell it to them at a reduced price. Think about it, if you had a car to sell, even if it was a spare car, would you sell a $50,000 machine for $500? No.
Google Is Your Friend
The Internet provides a vast resource for traders. Simply Googling the details of a potential trade can unearth useful and relevant information, and save a trader a great deal of wasted time and potential fiscal loss.
Then there are multiple forums where traders congregate and share tips and information. These places are veritable mines of information, and while none of it should be taken entirely at face value, it will point you in the right direction. These are excellent places to make new contacts and to deepen your understanding and knowledge of trading. Time spent learning more about your field is never wasted time, as even small snippets of information picked up in the course of conversation can prove to be invaluable later on.
Common Sense Is Your Ally
Tales of scams are sometimes as ridiculous as they are sad. In some cases, traders are lured to foreign countries under the pretense of ’seeing the goods’ themselves. Of course, they are also encouraged to bring with them cash to exchange for the goods. Those who take scammers up on these types of offers can quite often end up dead, killed for the cash they trustingly brought with them.
In today’s world, no trade should require you to carry large amounts of cash on your person at any time. The only possible reasons for anyone to do this are illegal ones. Cash is a means of avoiding the prying eyes of the law, and those who wish to avoid the eyes of the law are not the ones you want to be dealing with.
Don’t Be Afraid To Offend Your ‘Friend’
If a potential buyer or seller becomes offended because you background check them, their firm, and their credentials, it is wiser not to deal with them. The scammer will always try to develop a personal relationship with you in order to make you trust them. Your attempts to check them out independently will therefore be tantamount to betrayal of your new ‘friendship’. Remember that this is business, and that your money, your reputation and indeed your life could be at stake.
Those who take themselves seriously as traders do develop friendships and business relationships, but they do not allow them to supersede common sense. A reputable trading partner will not only not mind you investigating and verifying them, they may well encourage it, or provide references. Once again, these references should not be taken at face value, but should be investigated as well. Do the referees actually exist? Did the trades they claim to have undertaken with this person actually take place?
Being a successful trader is not unlike being a detective, and though it may be time consuming to delve into the backgrounds of new trading partners, it is infinitely more time consuming to be scammed.
Get Global
Becoming familiar with the country with which you are trading is also wise. Understanding business practices in the jurisdiction with which you are trading will help you evaluate whether your partner is acting in good faith, or if they are setting you up for a scam. There are variances from country to country.
Being familiar with the practices and laws of your trading partner’s country will also allow you to investigate them more thoroughly. The best way to learn about a country you wish to do business in is to contact your embassy in that country. Embassies are goldmines of ‘on the ground’ information, and they are usually pleased to assist citizens in their dealings with the foreign state.
As has been mentioned in previous sections, in some countries scams aren’t just run by small time scammers, they are run by large organized crime groups who can sometimes own entire banks. In these cases, a little research is not enough, because the corruption runs right up into governmental and commercial ranks. This does not mean that you have no recourse however, it simply means that your knowledge base needs to be wider than the one your potential trading partner provides you with. Contacting your embassy in the country can provide valuable help in avoiding these types of scams, as these crime syndicates are quite often well known.
What’s Their Feedback Like?
Who are you dealing with? Who else have they dealt with? Scammers often pull up stakes once they have defrauded one victim and move on, this means that they often do not have much, if any ‘back story’. If the person you are dealing with claims to be very experienced and well established in his or her field but nobody has ever heard of them before, a large red flag is raised.
A little like Ebay, good traders have lots of positive feedback, an independently verifiable reputation, and a public history. It is always more of a risk dealing with a ‘new’ trader than one who has already proven their reliability and expertise in other areas

India Goverment approves zero import duty for sugar

Indian government approved zero import duty for sugar.

The import duty for sugar in India was reduced to zero, as the Indian government released the last day on April 17. The measure was debated for months and was highly broadcasted in the national media. The Embassy of Brazil in New Delhi has already felt the repercussions of the decision, as many Indian companies are in contact with Brazilian Embassy in India showing interest in buying the product. According the press of the country, there is a expectation that a large amount of sugar will be imported by India. After approval of the government, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, released a note stating that the Central Government has taken actions to increase the stock of sugar in the current season by adding effective through imports. The Indian government will also speed customs clearances for importers of raw sugar . As well in addition to facilitate imports, they will be taking actions to clear the docks for berthing vessels efficiently. According to the note of the Ministry is expected that imports are appropriate to supplement the domestic production and to meet the demand for consumption and there will not be a shortage of sugar in the market.According to Secex (Department of Foreign Trade), the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade of Brazil has informed that from January to March, the country exported to India around 588,000 tons of raw sugar, the equivalent of U.S. $ 168 million.

Reality of the Sugar Industry

"There are now literally millions of untrained, misinformed global commodity traders (intermediaries) who are trading from home and attempting to secure huge commissions by buying or selling exportable sugar. Thousands of new “agents” are drawn to the business daily. 99% of which will never achieve a signle successful deal because even though they mostly set out with good intentions, they do not know how to close a deal from start to finish - most do not even know how to start a deal correctly, let alone bring it to a final conclusion. But this is not the main problem.. these agents are always ”trading” with unverified offers.
Many of these offers have been orbiting the planet for years. Some may have originally been real and reliable trade opportunities which then got altered, sanitized, un-sanitized, by every other trader whose hand it fell in, passed by email, fax, post, and fax again through hundreds of hands, uploaded to a BBS in 1993, posted on Newsgroups in 1995, saved to a hard disk untill one broker, down on his luck dug it up and not understanding the time-limited nature of any offer and quote, re-used it in the desperate attempt to find a buyer, then it was posted and downloaded again, and again, and again, etc…
The reality is that apart from these continuous “traveling offers” wandering the internet like ghost ships, there is another, darker, more sinister traveler involved.. This type of offer is a scam offer, posted years ago by a “seller”, who was in reality a scammer"

Sugar Market - Beginning of the season

CEPEA - Centro de Estudos Avançados em Economia Aplicada: "Sugar
Prices remain stables in the beginning of the season

In the first fortnight of April, Brazilian sugar market moved at a slow pace. The supply was low, helping prices to stabilize. For a while, there is no sugar of the new crop available in the spot market. Domestic and international buyers are waiting supply from Brazilian 2009/10 crop, expecting smaller values. The harvest in Brazil started officially in April 1st.

Between March 31st and April 15th, the CEPEA/ESALQ Index (Sao Paulo state) for crystal sugar upped slightly 0.4 percent, closing at 46.97 reals or 21.58 dollars per bag of 50 kilos on April 15th. However, according to ISO (International Sugar Organization), the international sugar deficit should reach 4.3 million of tons in 2008/09 season. The main reason is the lower production in China and India.

Regarding the price parity calculated by Cepea, the sugar remunerated 116 percent more than the anhydrous ethanol between April 6th and 9th. In relation to the hydrated, the sugar advantage was 134 percent more. In the same period, domestic trades (Sao Paulo state) remunerated 16 percent more than exports. (Cepea – Brazil)

White Refined Sugar ICUMSA

"ICUMSA - WHAT DOES IT MEAN
'What is the meaning of ICUMSA and to what does it relate?' In order to attempt to help, let us quote the following from the ICUMSA Handbook:
'ICUMSA (International Commission for Uniform Methods of Sugar Analysis) is a world-wide body which brings together the activities of the National Committees for Sugar Analysis in more than thirty member countries. Work is carried out under various Subject headings, each headed by a Referee.
Methods are recommended for tentative approval by ICUMSA in the first instance. Upon meeting all of the Commission's requirements, methods are accorded official status. Methods which are demonstrably useful and have found an established application, or which do not lend themselves to collaborative testing are given an Accepted status'
An ICUMSA rating is an international unit for expressing the purity of the sugar in solution, and is directly related to the color of the sugar. Be aware that there are different types of ICUMSA units. For Brazilian sugar, the lower the ICUMSA figure the whiter the sugar. However, this is not the case in the E.U. for some unknown reason, which has been the subject of much discussion"

Louis Dreyfus big stake acquisition of Santelisa Vale

08/04/09 - Santelisa Vale, a company formed in 2007 after the merger of the Santa Elisa and Vale do Rosario sugar and ethanol companies, has just sold a significant stake to Louis Dreyfus Commodities Bioenergia S.A. The exact numbers have not been disclosed. Before the deal with Louis Dreyfus was approved on Monday, April 6th, a host of other contenders, including Sao Martinho and Bunge, had attempted to woo Santelisa Vale. At the time, offers for a 40% stake were estimated by the local business media at BRL 3 billion, or USD 1.4 billion.Together, the two companies will have a combined yearly processing capacity of 40 million tonnes of sugarcane – more than the entire Australian output in the 2007-2008 harvest year, a paltry 36 million tonnes. In milling capacity, Santelisa Vale-Louis Dreyfus are also just a step behind Cosan, the world’s largest producer of sugar and ethanol, which milled 40.3 million tonnes in the 2007-2008 season, producing 3.24 million tonnes of sugar and 1.52 billion liters (400,000 gallons) of ethanol (see MD&A, p. 4, in Form 20-F here). One tonne of sugarcane yields, on average, 80 liters, or 21.16 gallons, of ethanol.Santelisa Vale is choking on the debt it took on in March 2007 to finance its acquisition of Nossa Senhora do Vale do Rosario. At the time, the owners of Santa Elisa, the Biagi family, offered Santa Elisa itself as collateral and took on USD 675 million in debt from Bradesco – until recently, Brazil’s largest private bank. Now they are struggling with a debt load of BRL 3 billion, or USD 1.4 billion. With the acquisition of a stake in Santelisa Vale, Louis Dreyfus is extending its shopping spree in Brazil. In February 2007, the company doubled its local milling capacity when it acquired four mills belonging to the Tavares de Melo Group. At Santelisa Vale, Louis Dreyfus joins a coterie of investors and partners that includes Goldman Sachs, Global Foods, Carlyle/Riverstone, and Discovery Capital.Other European players are also significantly expanding their production and trading operations in Brazil. Sucden, Tate and Lyle, Czarnikow, and Tereos, which owns Acucar Guarani, are all busy helping their respective countries in Europe kick the sugar beet subsidy habit.

Optimism text

The Ziglar Weekly Newsletter » April 7, 2009, Edition 14: "I’m truly fortunate because I am optimistic by nature. I might not spend my last two dollars to buy a money belt, but I am very optimistic about the future. Dr. William Arthur Ward said that “the doors of opportunity are open to the optimist. Gates of achievement swing wide for the person who sees infinite possibilities in the insignificant.”
Most of us would rather be around a person who sees hope in the future than one who sees nothing but trouble ahead. I’m talking about the kind of optimism which sees a solution in every problem, optimism that looks for the solution instead of concentrating on the problem. In his 1828 Dictionary, Noah Webster said that optimism is the “opinion or doctrine that everything in nature is ordered for the best, or, the order of things in the universe that is adapted to produce the most good.” The pessimist and pessimism are not identified by Noah Webster in his dictionary.
Optimism is a valid approach to life because when we encounter difficulties, if we are optimistic we will immediately start thinking about a solution to the difficulty, whereas the pessimist will look at a problem and ask, “I wonder what’s going to happen next?” or say, “There’s nothing I can do.” The interesting thing is psychologists will tell you those are self-fulfilling prophecies. That’s the reason I so love what Dr. Ward says about optimism: “Deep optimism is aware of problems, but recognizes the solution; knows about difficulties, but believes they can be overcome; sees the negative, but accentuates the positive; is exposed to the worst, but expects the best; has reason to complain, but prefers to smile.”
I rest my case and encourage you to think optimistical"
